Illegal Tire Dumping is Happening Across America. PowerLink Can Help Stop It.
Cities are spending millions cleaning up illegal tire dumping. PowerLink’s tech can offer a better option.
In DeKalb County, Georgia, officials retrieved more than 37,000 illegally dumped tires in 2025 alone, launching a $250,000 cleanup initiative.
In Philadelphia, more than 4,000 tires were illegally dumped in a single park, stretching over 100 feet down a wooded ravine toward a creek.
Also, in Baton Rouge, the problem got so bad that the metro council passed a new ordinance requiring tire shop permits and imposing fines up to $50 per tire for improper dumping.
This is happening everywhere, and municipalities are running out of solutions.
The root cause isn’t apathy. It’s economics. Legal tire disposal costs money. Without accessible, affordable recycling infrastructure, tire shops and haulers alike take the path of least resistance.
The Real Cost of Illegal Tire Dumping

The result is a nationwide epidemic of contaminated neighborhoods and waterways, overwhelming municipalities and leaving them holding the cleanup bill. In Philadelphia alone, illegal dumping costs the city roughly $2 million annually. Seattle has seen an 82% increase in large-scale illegal tire dumping since 2022, spending nearly $3 million on cleanup last year.
Clearly, American cities are spending millions reacting to a problem they can’t solve alone. This is exactly the revenue opportunity we outlined in our last email, and the illegal tire dumping makes it obvious just how urgent and widespread the demand actually is across the country.
Where other recyclers fall short on capacity or accessibility, PowerLink’s patented digestion system—including the portable and modular PowerLink Mobile units—can provide cities and businesses a place to send their tires. Our technology is ready; building facilities is our next step.
Every tire that comes through our doors is a liability solved for someone else, and a free or potentially a paid-to-takeaway, revenue-generating input source for us.
