Scientists at Stanford Medicine have detected microplastics in the brain, heart, testicles, stomach, lymph nodes, placenta, lungs, and liver. As if that wasn’t enough, they’ve also been found in urine, breastmilk, semen, and a newborn’s first stool. As their researchers put it: “We’re now born pre-polluted.”

A large-scale review by UC San Francisco researchers found microplastic exposure is suspected to harm reproductive, digestive, and respiratory health, with a suggested link to colon and lung cancer.
